CAIRO – 11 April 2026: Egypt said it hopes ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran will mark a “turning point” toward ending the war, during talks held on Saturday with the United Kingdom.

In a phone call with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stressed the importance of building on the ceasefire announcement between Washington and Tehran to reinforce de-escalation efforts.

He reiterated Egypt’s firm position that diplomacy and negotiations remain the only viable path to resolving the crisis, highlighting Cairo’s recent coordination with regional partners to contain the escalation.

The call also reviewed ways to strengthen Egypt-UK relations, as well as developments in the Middle East in light of the ongoing talks, in addition to the situations in Gaza, Lebanon, and Sudan.

The United States and Iran held talks on Saturday in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, aiming to secure a lasting end to weeks of fighting that have fueled regional instability and driven up global energy prices.
